The stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 2,200 times in 2011. If it were a cable car, it would take about 37 trips to carry that many people.

Second story going up

December 27, 2011 Leave a comment

We visited the building site on Boxing day to see what was going on. To our surprise and delight the hispanic workers are working on Boxing Day. (That’s the day after Christmas for Americans and is a British holiday but not here it seems).

There’s only one room on the 2nd story, a galleried office with a balcony outside. The two side-walls of the office are constructed of regular wood framing rather than the TransCon Steel SIPs.

No scaffolding, no tie-on

I can see why construction is relatively inexpensive in Texas. No scaffolding, not tied-on, no hard hat. No wonder contractor’s insurance is expensive though.

Safety badger Peter

As you can see, Peter does have enough brains to consider them worth protecting.

2nd story going up

2nd story room is going up. As the level drops down 2 ft at this point, and the ceiling height drops 1 ft, the overall height of the 2nd level is only 6 ft higher than the main level.

Winter colors

Although many trees have dropped their leaves, there are still nice colors at this time of year. This is the view from our house towards the nearest neighbor. All the neighbors seem really nice except this guy. I think he’s upset that his private park is no longer his private park. He also seems a bit upset about the construction noise. Which is nothing compared to the yap-yap-yapping of his three toy dogs.

View from behind

The view from behind the house is not its best aspect, but it’s the one that we can get a good view of. You can see the second story room going up.

Interesting Rock formation

This is an interesting rock formation I found towards the bottom of our lot near to the spring-fed creek.

Mysterious – it looks like someone as been clearing some of our land. This wasn’t us or anyone on our part. We also found some discarded cans and also found a pair of discarded in-line skates!

This was clearly cut by someone, it looks like with an axe? Is there a homeless person living on our land? Does Stig of the dump live here?

Lana’s new camera that I got her for her birthday (a Nikon Coolpix P300) has a panoramic mode that allowed me to get the whole of the house in from the rear.

A few minor snags starting to appear (but nothing major)

If this was Grand Designs, it would be the point that Kevin McCloud would come around and tut-tut everywhere.
